The Mevlana Museum (Mevlânâ Müzesi) in Konya-Karatay, Turkey, attracts a large crowd in front of one of its gates. The museum is the mausoleum of the Sufi mystic Rumi (Jalāl ad-Dīn ar-Rūmī, 1207–1273), with an adjoining mosque and a former dervish cell; the turquoise dome above his tomb, dating from 1274, is regarded as a landmark of Konya. 17 December, the anniversary of Rumi’s death, is also the day of the annual Şeb-i Arus festival, when many pilgrims visit the mausoleum.
