The Oyunohara Great Torii, at 33.9 metres Japan's largest torii gate, marks the original site of Kumano Hongū Taisha, Tanabe, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. The shrine once stood on a sandbank at the confluence of the Kumanogawa and Otonashi-gawa rivers; a flood destroyed nearly all its buildings, and in 1891 the remains were relocated to the hill. The steel gate, erected in 2000, weighs 172 tonnes.
