Two hikers rest on wooden log loungers above the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail near Mizunomi-oji, Tanabe, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. The loungers invite passers-by to practise forest bathing (shinrin-yoku) among the cedars. Japan popularised the practice in the 1980s; it drew wider international attention after UNESCO listed the Kii Mountains' sacred sites and pilgrimage routes as World Heritage in 2004.
