A small, red-lacquered shrine with a steep staircase stands in the forest at Hosshinmon-oji near Tanabe, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. The site marks the outer entrance to the sacred precincts of Kumano Hongū Taisha and was historically one of several gates along the Kumano Kodo marking ritual phases of the pilgrimage.
