A road runs past the public bathhouse "Tsubo-yu no Sato" through Yunomine Onsen, Tanabe, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. Residents can fill containers with spring water here; many households also receive it piped directly into their homes, believed to have healing properties. Tsubo-yu itself is regarded as Japan's oldest hot spring and is the only hot spring in the world listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site; according to legend, the ailing samurai Oguri Hangan was healed here, a story still performed in Kabuki theatre today. The colour of the water is said to change seven times a day.
