Steam rises from the stone pools of the Yuzutsu, the public cooking area at the centre of Yunomine Onsen, Tanabe, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. Visitors have cooked eggs and vegetables in the hot spring water here for generations. The roughly 1,800-year-old village is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Kumano Kodo; the building in the background is the Yunomine-oji shrine with its colourful curtains.
