Two oversized red chilli peppers flank the wooden entrance of the Yawataya Isogoro (八幡屋礒五郎) flagship store in Daimon-cho, five minutes' walk from Zenkoji Temple (善光寺). The shop was founded in 1736 by the hemp and washi paper merchant Kan'emon Muroga, who later discovered shichimi togarashi in Edo. A banner beside the entrance advertises the JR Koumi Line's 110th anniversary in 2025, its train livery decorated with the store's spice tin design.
