More information:

View of a green and white Euro PAT Test label attached to the underside of a portable electrical appliance. The sticker records that the item has passed its inspection and provides fields for the appliance reference number and the date when the next test is due. A handwritten date of December 2024 is visible alongside the prominent word “PASSED” and a small smiling-face symbol. Part of the appliance casing and its coiled electrical cable can be seen around the label. Portable Appliance Testing, commonly abbreviated to PAT, describes the inspection and, where appropriate, electrical testing of plug-in appliances and equipment to help determine whether they remain safe to use. The process can include a visual examination of the casing, flex, plug and fuse, followed where necessary by tests such as earth continuity and insulation resistance. A passed label provides a visible indication that an appliance was considered satisfactory when inspected. It may also support asset identification, maintenance scheduling and record keeping. However, a sticker alone does not guarantee that an item will remain safe indefinitely, because damage, misuse or deterioration can occur after testing. UK health and safety law requires electrical equipment with the potential to cause injury to be maintained in a safe condition. It does not impose a universal requirement for every portable appliance to receive an annual PAT test. The appropriate type and frequency of checks should instead reflect the equipment, how it is used, its operating environment and the findings of previous inspections. The image is suitable for illustrating electrical safety, workplace risk management, facilities management, landlord responsibilities, equipment maintenance, health and safety inspections, compliance records and accident prevention. It also provides a clear documentary example of the information commonly shown on an appliance inspection label.
