More information:

A framed vintage advertising poster for Flowers Breweries, carrying the memorable slogan “Flowers Complement The Turf Beautifully” and the accompanying line “Always Pick Flowers.” The monochrome illustration depicts a foaming pint of Flowers beer alongside racing binoculars and betting slips, deliberately linking the brewery’s ales with the long-established traditions of British horse racing, racecourse hospitality and the English public house. The artwork was produced as part of Flowers’ distinctive mid-twentieth century advertising campaigns, using clever wordplay between the brewery name and the “turf” of Britain’s famous racecourses, particularly resonating with Cheltenham’s national reputation for horse racing and the Cheltenham Festival. Displayed in a traditional wooden picture frame, the print is now an attractive example of British brewing heritage, vintage commercial art, classic typography and nostalgic pub memorabilia. The Flowers name originated with Flower & Sons, founded in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1831 by Edward Fordham Flower. In 1954 the company was acquired by J. W. Green Ltd of Luton, with the enlarged business adopting the better-known Flowers Breweries name. The brewery expanded into one of Britain’s significant regional brewers with an extensive tied estate of pubs across England before being acquired by Whitbread in 1961 as consolidation transformed the British brewing industry. Flowers became part of Whitbread Flowers, although brewing at the historic Stratford-upon-Avon brewery ceased in 1968 and the former J. W. Green Phoenix Brewery in Luton closed in 1969 as production was concentrated into newer facilities. Whitbread itself later exited brewing, selling its brewing operations, including the Flowers brands, to Interbrew in 2000, a business that subsequently became InBev and then today’s global brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev). Original Flowers advertising posters such as this are increasingly sought after by collectors
