More information:

Vintage Liverpool Football Club match programme for the Football League First Division fixture against Coventry City at Anfield on Tuesday 5 February 1974. Liverpool won the match 2–1, with Alec Lindsay opening the scoring from the penalty spot in the 28th minute and Kevin Keegan extending the lead after 57 minutes. Jimmy Holmes scored Coventry City’s reply in the 84th minute. Liverpool led 1–0 at half-time. The programme’s bold red front cover prominently displays the Liverpool name beneath the headings “League Champions” and “UEFA Cup Winners”, reflecting the club’s successful 1972–73 season. Trophy illustrations appear on either side of the title, while a black and white football action photograph occupies the centre of the design. The lower panel identifies the opposing clubs, competition, date, kick-off time and original price of five pence. The match was played on a Tuesday afternoon with a 2.30 pm kick-off because government restrictions on floodlight use affected football scheduling during the period. The recorded attendance was 21, 656, unusually low for a Liverpool league fixture at Anfield. Bill Shankly managed Liverpool, while Gordon Milne was in charge of Coventry City. Liverpool’s starting side included Ray Clemence, Tommy Smith, Alec Lindsay, Phil Thompson, Peter Cormack, Emlyn Hughes, Kevin Keegan, Brian Hall, Phil Boersma, Alan Waddle and Ian Callaghan. The fixture also marked Phil Thompson’s move from midfield to centre-half, the position in which he played for the remainder of his Liverpool career. The programme is a collectible example of 1970s British football ephemera and records Liverpool during an important period of domestic and European success. It is suitable for editorial themes involving Liverpool FC history, Coventry City, Anfield, Bill Shankly, Kevin Keegan, vintage match programmes, football memorabilia, First Division history and sports publishing.
