Station House is a substantial postwar office building on Stamford New Road in the centre of Altrincham, Trafford, Greater Manchester. Although its strong horizontal lines and extensive bands of tinted glazing may suggest an early 1980s development, the landmark building dates from approximately 1966 and reached its sixtieth year in 2026. This view shows its large red-brick elevations, pale concrete or rendered structural bands, green glazed windows and adjoining wings beneath a partly cloudy sky. Owned and operated by Bruntwood, Station House occupies a prominent position directly opposite Altrincham Interchange, providing immediate access to Manchester Metrolink, national rail services and local bus routes. Its location beside the transport hub has helped establish the building as one of the town’s longest-standing commercial and business addresses. The offices are also within walking distance of Altrincham’s shops, cafés, restaurants, market and other town-centre facilities. The multi-storey complex was designed around broad office floorplates and long rows of windows intended to provide natural light across its internal workspace. Its scale, repetitive fenestration and functional materials reflect the confident modern commercial architecture used for many British office developments during the 1960s. Station House has subsequently undergone phased investment and refurbishment rather than demolition. Bruntwood has modernised office floors, serviced suites, reception and communal areas, toilets, bicycle storage and other workplace facilities. Further renovation of the first and sixth floors was completed as the building approached its sixtieth anniversary. The refurbished development now provides leased offices, flexible workspace, coworking facilities and meeting rooms while retaining the recognisable structure and external form of the original mid-century building.
