Sept 2000 - The brick built viaduct at Whalley, (known locally as Whalley Arches), Lancashire and the River Calder, England from the grounds of Whalley Abbey . The 48-span railway bridge was built between 1846 and 1850 under the supervision of engineer Terence Wolfe Flanagan and formed part of the Bolton, Blackburn, Clitheroe and West Yorkshire Railway. Over seven million bricks and 12,338 cubic metres of stone were used in its construction. In 1849, two of the 41 arches collapsed. three of those constructing the bridge lost their lives.
