Distribution
One of Alamy's key objectives is to increase sales in additional territories. Whilst we already manage a proportion of sales in these markets online we have also partnered with third party distributors in many regions worldwide who have a strong client base, local knowledge and proven marketing strategies.
Alamy retains the right to make sales directly into all territories. However, our distributors provide an additional revenue stream from clients who we are not targeting ourselves. Please note that our distributors operate their own pricing structures and do not follow the Alamy price calculator so prices will reflect local fluctuations and market pressures.
Benefits to you:
- An optional scheme.
- Increase your sales at extremely competitive rates of commission. You receive 45% of a distributor sale, whilst continuing to receive your standard commission for sales through Alamy (i.e. non-distributor sales).
- Continue to see when sales are made, and the territory or territories in which your images are being used.
- You choose the territories that you would like to sign up for. Our list includes all the major territories in the world.
How it works:
- Images will only be sold by third parties in territories you nominate. A full list of territories has been given for you to choose from as we will expand our network in time.
- Details of our current distribution partners can be found here.
- Once you have chosen your territories, your images will remain available to Distributors until 31st March 2009.
- In April of every year you have the option to opt-out of distribution. If you do not opt out your images will continue to be available through the territories you have selected.
- If you do not want to opt-out, you don’t need to do anything.

Novel Use
Novel use has been devised as platform to launch a number of initiatives, giving us greater flexibility when selling your images. If you sign up to the Novel Use scheme you are giving Alamy permission to sell your images at any price and by any method we feel is appropriate. This opens up your images to new opportunities thus giving you additional potential revenue streams for your images.
Benefits to you:
- An optional scheme.
- Opportunity to sell your images in new, emerging markets.
- Continue to see when sales are made, and the territory or territories in which your images are being used.
- The Novel Use scheme will not cannibalise our traditional sales.
How it works:
- Once you have opted in, your images will be available within the scheme until 31st March 2009.
- Your images remain part of the large Alamy collection and continue to be sold under existing licence types.
- In April of every year you have the option to opt out of Novel Use.
- If you do not want to opt-out, you don’t need to do anything.
The scheme is very much in its infancy and exciting ways to sell your imagery in this way are being developed. The first iteration of Novel Use is the Limited Use scheme.
