Restrictions

Restrictions allow you to prevent your images being used in a particular way. You may want to restrict the use of your images in certain territories, industries or for sensitive issues.

The restrictions you apply specify the industries and/or territories in which your images CANNOT be used. Below is some additional information to help you set any required restrictions, but it is your responsibility to check you have placed all the restrictions required to manage the rights of an image. Remember you can batch apply restrictions to groups of images if needed.

Editorial use only

If you need to restrict your images to permit editorial use only, you should apply the following restrictions.

Electronic uses

If you wish to restrict all electronic uses you should apply the following restrictions.

Web advertising

If you wish to restrict all web advertising, you should apply the following restrictions.

Low resolution for electronic and web use

We offer a range of low resolution licences to our customers. You are not able to restrict these usages specifically, but we will automatically apply the required low resolution restriction “behind the scenes” where required. Details as follows:

Adding restrictions

Note that you can only manage your restrictions using the latest version of Manage Images.

  1. Go to My Alamy.
  2. Under “Organise images”, click “Manage images”.
  3. If you set the image as
Rights Managed (RM) or Rights Managed - Exclusive (RM - E) you can add restrictions to a single image or a batch of images.
    • Please note these are ways in which your image may not be used.
