Alamy Live News is where we sell your news images to the world’s media. If you are a dedicated freelance photojournalist or a talented photographer who has the opportunity to take a fantastic news, sport or entertainment picture, you have come to the right place.
Why bother with news?
The doom-mongers would have you believe that the news photo industry is dead. Nothing could be further from the truth. Alamy is a leading supplier of photos to the world's media and our customers tell us they need more and more news images to satisfy their print, web and tablet editions. We want to make Alamy a big player in news by meeting that demand, and we would like your help to do it.
Why Alamy?
If you are already signed up with Alamy, you will know that we are the largest online stock photography collection in the world. We have a network of thousands of contributors and hundreds of customers, from the world's best known newspapers and broadcasters to leading corporations and advertising agencies. Photographers keep 60% of every sale that Alamy makes.
For news images, we provide:
- An FTP account for every committed news, sport and entertainment photographer or editorial agency.
- A web news upload service for all Alamy photographers who have a good quality control record.
- A news feed where our news images are showcased and from where our customers can buy images.
- An FTP service for our customers, who are sent a carefully selected collection of Alamy's news, sport and entertainment photographs.
- Automatic transfer of images to the stock collection 48 hours after the image was taken, ensuring that photographers benefit from belonging to the world’s biggest online stock photography collection.

Alamy assumes that you are happy with us selling your images in all geographical areas of the world including your home country. If you are a news agency with existing territorial restrictions, tell us by emailing member services at memberservices@alamy.com.
What are the news images Alamy wants?
A great news image is difficult to define – but we all know one when we see one. They can make you wince, laugh, cry or sigh – they will never be boring.
A news image could be a great action shot of a momentous event; a beautifully composed image of an everyday scene in a far-flung place; an arresting image of a politician at an otherwise boring press conference. Almost all news images will be of the moment, filed within minutes of the event taking place.
We need images which are either unique or are better than the competition and filed earlier – we depend on your skills and your imagination to come up with images which we can then sell on your behalf.
We are also interested in slightly less current images. If you have been on a wildlife expedition, taken some great images of the northern lights, completed your month–long study of the flying patterns of bees – and you have amazing images of this, let us know by emailing us at news@alamy.com.
What will Alamy do with your news images?
Our job at Alamy is to get your news images sold. When you file a news image, it will enter the Alamy news feed. It will immediately be available to all our customers.
Alamy staff will look at the image and the metadata. Very poor images, non-newsworthy images or images with poor caption information could be deleted from the news feed.
Images that we believe are of a high quality and that we believe our customers are likely to want to buy will be sent to our customers directly. We will send these images on spec by FTP.
