The Mausoleum of Hadrian, also known as Castel Sant'Angelo, is a towering cylindrical building in Rome, Italy, initially commissioned by Emperor Hadrian as a tomb for himself and his family. Over centuries, it has transformed from a solemn mausoleum into a fortress, a papal residence, and now, a museum that captivates visitors with its layers of history. Its strategic location along the Tiber River, the majestic design, and the rich history embedded in its walls make it a testament to the architectural and historical prowess of ancient Rome. Cooling or Cowling Castle is a 14th-century quadrangular castle in the village of Cooling, Kent on the Hoo Peninsula near Rochester. It was built in the 1380s by the Cobham family, the local lords of the manor, to guard the area against French raids into the Thames Estuary. The castle has an unusual layout, comprising two walled wards of unequal size next to each other, surrounded by moats and ditches. It was the earliest English castle designed for the use of gunpowder weapons by its defenders. Jérusalem, Casque trouvé dans le Jourdain, 1 1854 Auguste Salzmann French For Salzmann history was in the details. Though the ravages of time, natural forces, and human conflict erased much of ancient cities, fragments hinted at the existence of civilizations such as the Kingdom of David, the Roman Empire, and earlier phases of the Ottoman Empire—all models for Second Empire France. The Sacsayhuamán wall, a marvel of Incan architecture, stands tall in the historic city of Cusco, Peru. This colossal limestone fortress, with its massive, tightly interlocking stones, showcases the Incas' extraordinary craftsmanship and engineering prowess. Designed for both defense and ceremonial purposes, Sacsayhuamán's zigzagging walls symbolize the teeth of a puma, linking it mystically to the Incan capital.
