HERMIT THRUSH The Hermit Thrush ranges through eastern NorthAmerica, breeding from northern Michigan and Massachu-setts northward and southward along the AUeghanies toPennsylvania, and wintering from southern Illinois andNew Jersey to the Gulf States. In the Canadian fauna the hermit thrush, the most def-inite thrush to study, comes a month before the oHve-backedthrush arrives, while the snow wraiths still linger in theshadowy forests. In the fall it tarries as long after theohve-backed has departed. When the hermit thrush appears in the spring its songis wonderfully sweet, but it does not come into full p
