The many obstacleswhich had retarded my departure from Alexan-dria, from day to day, being at length removed,and a favourable wind blowing from the south-west, I took leave of my friends there, and,accompanied by Mr. Thurburn and Mr. Babing-ton, my fellow-voyager from India to Egypt,embarked on board the vessel in which I hadtaken my passage for the coast of Syria on themorning of Christmas-day.
