More information:

Traffic passes over the Calcasieu River Bridge, officially named the Louisiana Memorial World War II Bridge, Sept. 9, 2020, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The through truss bridge, which opened in 1952, was rated functionally obsolete and structurally deficient by the Department of Transportation but was declared safe by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. The National Bridge Inventory gave it a structurally deficient rating of 3 and a sufficiency rating of 6.6 out of 100. The bridge, also called the I-10 Bridge, carries more than 55,000 vehicles per day across the Calcasieu River. t has decorative iron work with crossed guns integrated into the railings. It is ranked seventh on an national list of bridges in neeed of replacement and is considered particularly dangerous due to its age, steep grade, traffic congestion and volume, low vertical clearance, and contamination. It was the only major bridge in Lake Charles until the 1962 construction of the Lake Charles Loop with the I-210 Calcasieu River High Bridge. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
