As the river both above andbelow Lake Pepin opens earlier in thespring than the lake, passengers destinedfor points above are conveyed by coachesto Red Wing, and there re-embark. Lakz Pepin, an expansion of the Mis-sissippi river, lying 670 feet above theGulf of Mexico, being about 30 miles inlength and 3 miles wide, is a most lovelysheet of water, lying between the Statesof Minnesota and Wisconsin. Here maybe seen abrupt headlands, bluffs, and pic-turesque prairie slopes of great beauty;added to which, the purity and healthyinfluence of the Lake and surroundingcountry render this vicinity one of themost inviting resorts on the waters of theUpper Mississippi. The villages anfi landings on bothshores are being annually visited by greatnumbers of seekers of health and pleasure, during warm weather, and the early fallmonths.. DUBUQUE TO ST.
