At Christmas of 1972, the Air Force had still engaged in around 2,000 air raids bombing Hanoi and Haiphong in North Vietnam and caused massive damage. A chandelier imported from Italy more than 95 years ago shines on two golden figures on the stairway balustrade, the Roman goddess of agriculture, Ceres, and the Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa.
