Cromer began to develop into the small family resort that it is today after the railway arrived in 1877. Many of the central buildings date from Victorian and Edwardian times either side of the turn of the 20th century. The town has long been known for its crabs which are reckoned to be sweeter than anywhere else. The Hotel de Paris here is a grand Victorian replacement for a so-named earlier model developed by a refugee from the French Revolution.
