The Gospers Mountain Mega-Fire has burnt through over 500,000 hectares of bush, farms and people's homes. In the suburb of Bilpin the fire jumped the Bells Line of Road in late December and burnt down houses, apple orchards and stores that make the area famous. This image taken not far from Bilpin shows one of the many signs put out by locals thanking the Rural Fire Service (RFS) and other firefighters (Firies). As of January 14, 2020 the fire is still burning but is classed as "Contained" and all affected roads are now open to traffic. Photo Credit Stephen Dwyer Alamy News
