THE BOOK OF WATER GARDENING Gunnera scabra is smaller than the preceding, with leaves four to five feet in diameter on strong prickly petioles three to six feet in length. The Gunneras thrive best in moist soil and will stand the Winters in the Northern States if protected with leaves or straw. They are noble plants when once established, but will not thrive in dry soil. They are propagated by division of the roots.
