Completed in 1764, this bridge's single stone arch of 34 metres (111 feet) was the longest of its type in Europe at the time. On 8 July 1988 a Spitfire piloted by the late Ray Hannah was flown underneath it. This remarkable piece of flying was filmed and used in the title sequence of the BBC drama series "Piece of Cake".
