Tank Monument erected to commemorate the 1992 Transnitria civil war in Tiraspol, capital city of the breakaway republic, with an inscription in cyrillic: "Za Rodinu", for the motherland Picture of the Tank Monument erected in Memory of the 1992 Transnistrian conflict in Tiraspol. Transnistria is a breakaway state located between Moldova and Ukraine. Unlike Moldova, following the dissolution of the USSR the de facto sovereign state of Pridnestrovia chose not to separate from the Russian Federation and this escalated into a military conflict with Moldova in March 1992. A ceasefire was concluded in July 1992 and Transnistria is now an unrecognized independent presidential republic with its own government, parliament, military, police, postal system, and currency.
