Sundews, although worldwide in distribution are endangered in many areas. They attract small prey, especially insects, with sweet secretions. The insects are then trapped by the sticky mucous produced by glands. Then enzymes released by other glands break the insect down providing nutrients for the plant. The carnivory is an adaptation to obtain nutrients like nitrogen.
