View over the village of Arncliffe, taken from the edge of Old Cote Moor. In the heart of the Yorkshire Dales in Littondale, Arncliffe is a quaint village 3 miles beyond Kilnsey and is the largest settlement of the dale. Situated on a gravel delta above the flood-plain of the River Skirfare, Arncliffe's houses, cottages, and other buildings face green hillsides etched with limestone scars and a large village green. Dedicated to a Northumbrian king, St Oswald's Church is a Grade II listed building, situated in a bend of the River Skirfare amongst sycamores and yews. Founded in the 12th century, it has been rebuilt several times and although the tower survives from the 15th century, the rest of the church dates back to the 1840's.
