Residence of Mr. and Mrs. William Spencer Pope, which was located at 3625 Lindell Boulevard. William Spencer Pope was born in 1837, a son of English immigrants who eventually settled in Illinois. Pope served with Illinois troops during the Civil War, earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After the war, Pope worked at a lawyer in St. Louis and served in both houses of the Missouri Legislature. In 1866 Pope married Caroline E. Moore, and had three children, including William Spencer Pope, Jr, a Yale graduate who went on to practice law in St. Louis. William Spencer Pope was born in 1837, a son of English immigrants who eventually settled in Illinois. Pope served with Illinois troops during the Civil War, earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After the war, Pope worked at a lawyer in St. Louis and served in both houses of the Missouri Legislature. In 1866 Pope married Caroline E. London: Out on the Thames Tideway this morning - 13th March - for the first time this year are the Dark Blues of Oxford. The crew joined Cambridge on the Tideway in final preparation for the annual Varsity Boat Race which takes place on March 25th. Cambridge arrived their last Thursday.
