RME0RRHX–May 05, 1960 - U.S. Navy reveals new remote control vehicle for exploring ocean bottom.: A unique remote control undersea vehicle for exploring and conducting scientific studies of the ocean bottom for prolonged periods at great depths has been developed for the Office of Naval Reasearch. The new vehicle was demonstrated for the Press off the shore of La Jolla, California, May 16. 1960. The vehicle is essentially a tank equipped with a long jointed manipulator arm and hand together with specially devised underwater television cameras which serve as the eyes of the vehicle's operator on shore
RMEPY0HM–A U.S. Navy T-45C training jet crashed into San Diego Bay while the pilot was attempting to land at Naval Air Station North Island. The unidentified pilot, who was practicing for aircraft carrier flight operations ejected without injury from the aircraft before it crashed into the bay. A passing boater pulled the pilot to safety. The crash occurred at 2:00 p.m. (Pacific Daylight Time). The US$17 million aircraft, assigned to U.S. Navy Training Squadron 9 in Mississippi will be removed from San Diego Bay by crane later in the evening. The pilot was transported to a local military hospital.

Scientists of the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory have succeeded in obtaining the first ultra-violet full photograph of the sun. It waqs obtained by a special camera recovered from the nose cone of a Navy Aerobee III rocket launched March 13th 1959 at White Sands Missile range. The rocket reached an altitude of 123 miles where the light is midway between observable light and x rays. Lyman Alpha radiation formed the image on specially prepared photographic film
