He marched a group of rebels from Canterbury to the capital to oppose the institution of a poll tax and demand economic and social reforms. While the brief rebellion enjoyed early success, Tyler was killed by officers loyal to King Richard II during negotiations at Smithfield, London.

Charles Edward Louis Philip Casimir Stewart or Stuart (1720-1788), also known as Bonnie Prince Charlie and The Young Pretender, grandson of James II the last Roman Catholic monarch of Great Britain and Ireland, led the 1745 Jacobite rising, landing in the Hebrides in August. RMGGH58K–The Newport Rising was the last large-scale armed rebellion against authority in Great Britain, and one of the largest civil massacres committed by the British government in the 19th century. On 4 November 1839, almost 10,000 Chartist sympathisers, including many coal-miners to liberate fellow Chartists who were reported to have been taken prisoner in the Westgate Hotel in Newport, Monmouth. About 22 of the unarmed demonstrators were killed when troops opened fire on them. The leaders of the rebellion were sentenced to a traitor's death, later commuted to transportation for life.
