The engraving by French artist Jacques Callot, 1592-1635, which is dated 1627, may refer to either of two episodes of martyrdom in Nagasaki, Japan where, in 1597, 26 Christians were executed or in 1632, when 55 Christians were killed in what is known as the Great Genna Martyrdom.
