RME0M01D–Dec. 12, 1952 - Russians Hand Over Spandau Prison To Americans: The Americans took over the guard at Spandau Prison, Berlin, from the Russians, who will not take over the again for four months. The prison houses Nazi war criminals who are serving long sentences. During the Changing the Guard ceremony, the Russian and American Guard presented arms to each other and the commanders shook hands. The new crew has to wake for only one prisoner now, the 71 years old Rudolf Hess. RME0MJW6–Sep. 09, 1955 - EX-ADMIRAL RAEDER IS RELEASED FROM SPANDAU. Ex-ADMIRAL RAEDER, 79-year-old former chief of Hitler's navy was released from Spandau war crimes jail today. A Four Power statement said that he had been freed ''on account of his advanced age and state of his health. Raeder's wife was with him as he limped from the gloomy prison building. A car took them to a hospital in the British Zone where Raeder will stay for several weeks.
