RMHE27HE–On 23 December 1756, the first year of the Seven Years' War, the British privateer 'Terrible', met the French privateer 'Vengeance. The 'Vengeance' sailed towards the 'Terrible' under an English Ensign but hoisted the French colours when she came near and battle commenced. Interestingly, the 'Terrible' was equipped at Execution Dock, commanded by Captain Death, Lieutenant Devil, and had a surgeon named Ghost!

RMHHW616–On his way out to the Mediterranean in 1758, Vice-Admiral Brodrick hoisted his flag in the Prince George as convoy to a merchant fleet. The ship took fire at sea on 13th April and was totally destroyed. He stripped off his clothes and jumped in the sea where he swam for an hour before being picked up by one of the merchantmen.

RM2BAC8EH–US Civil War. Siege of Charleston, 1863-65. CSS H.L. Hunley, was a small, hand-powered submarine, built in 1863 in Mobile, Alabama. On February 17, 1864, while on blockade duty off Charleston, she approached the steam sloop of war, USS Housatonic, and detonated a torpedo against her side. The Federal ship sank rapidly, becoming the first warship to be lost to a submarine attack. Hunley did not return from her mission.
