This is the stately house known as Castle Howard in Yorkshire. The country home of the Earl of Carlisle between 1699 and 1725. When the Earl died in 1738 the project was completed by his son in law Sir Thomas Robinson between 1801-1811. Thereafter modest change took place until the Great Fire of 1940 that severely damaged the building with the roof dome collapsing leaving the house open to the elements. The dome was re-built in 1960 with re-decoration complete in 1981. Ranelagh Gardens were 18th century public pleasure gardens located in Chelsea, then just outside London, England. In 1742, the house and grounds were opened to the public. The centrepiece was a Rococo rotunda, designed by William Jones, a surveyor to the East India Company, an important venue for musical concerts - in 1765, the nine-year-old Mozart performed there. There was also a Chinese pavilion, which was added in 1750, an ornamental lake and several walks. It is now part of the grounds of Chelsea Hospital and the site of the annual Chelsea Flower Show.
