The ferry, Robert The Bruce, was built in 1934 by Clyde shipbuilders, William Denny, and could carry 500 passengers and 28 cars. It stopped operating in 1964 when the Forth Road Bridge opened.

RM2R4JE0T–A late 19th century view of Larne, a town on the east coast of County Antrim, Northern Ireland. In 1315, Edward the Bruce of Scotland (brother of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland), saw Ireland as another front in the ongoing war against Norman England, landed at Larne with his 6000 strong army en route to conquer Ireland. Following the 17th century Union of the Crowns of Scotland, England and Ireland under James VI & I many more settlers arrived in Ulster via Larne during the Plantation of Ulster. Later, during the 18th century many Scots-Irish emigrated to America from the port of Larne.
RMRKM1R0–The Old Vauxhall Bridge crossed the River Thames between Vauxhall on the south bank and Pimlico on the north bank. Built on the site of a former ferry it was built between 1809 and 1816. John Rennie was commissioned to design and build a new stone bridge, but following financial difficulties submitted a new design for an iron bridge, a plan that was rejected. Construction began on an iron bridge designed by Samuel Bentham, but his design was abandoned for the second time until James Walker, a Scottish civil engineer, was appointed to design and build the first iron bridge across the Thames.
