RM2CH12W4–A dog trots by the Robert the Bruce (Earl of Carrick) Memorial, near Loch Troon, Galloway (2020 photograph). - The Battle of Glen Trool took place in the First War of Scottish Independence, fought in April 1307. Glen Trool is a narrow glen in the Southern Uplands of Galloway, Scotland in which Loch Trool (behind the monument) is located. As the English soldiers approached up the narrow glen in single file, Bruce's men hurled boulders and arrows down on them. The English soldiers were killed or withdrew and Bruce was victorious.

RM2F8GDXD–A portrait of Robert I 1274-1329), popularly known as Robert the Bruce was King of Scots from 1306 to his death in 1329. Robert was one of the most famous warriors of his generation and eventually led Scotland during the First War of Scottish Independence against England. He fought successfully during his reign to regain Scotland's place as an independent country and is now revered in Scotland as a national hero.

RMMX08EF–John III Comyn, aka Lord of Badenoch, Lord of Lochaber and the Red Comyn (1269–1306), was a Scottish nobleman during the First War of Scottish Independence, and Guardian of Scotland during the Second Interregnum. Comyn was killed by Robert the Bruce (1274 – 1329) before the high altar of the Greyfriars Church in Dumfries on 10 February 1306 following an argument. Although Bruce was excommunicated by the Pope he moved quickly to seize the throne and was crowned and remained king of Scots on 25 March 1306 until his death in 1329.
