The advert appeared in a magazine published in the UK in February 1952.The illustration features a girl on a tractor and the words emphasise the pleasure of smoking and the famous catchphrase 'Player's Please'. The box of the cigarettes featured the famous sailor image in the centre of the design - with the word 'Hero' on his cap. Nottingham based John Player and Sons became part of Imperial Tobacco in 1901.

The advertisement features a cartoon of a farmer whose day is not starting well and claims that things will improve if you seek the solace of the cigarettes. The brand was introduced in 1883 and discontinued in 2016. This wartime advert also suggests emptying the packet at the time of purchase and leaving the package with the shopkeeper, presumably to cope with wartime shortages. An early form of recycling.
