The Royal Air Force was formed during the Great War on 1st April 1918 from its forebears the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service. To mark the 100th anniversary a celebration event was held on the unique World War One Aerodrome at Stow Maries, where the Union Jack (normally flown rather than the RFC ensign) was replaced by that of the RAF (an early white version) in a handing over ceremony with serving officer Air Commodore Jez Attridge present.
