RMR9XGME–An example of developing architectural styles, Charlton House, built in 1607–12, is a Jacobean building in Charlton, today part of south-east London, but until 1889 in the county of Kent. It was built by the crown to house Sir Adam Newton, Dean of Durham and tutor to Prince Henry, the son of James I, and older brother of the future Charles I. The designer of the house is presumed to be John Thorpe, one of the first professional English architects, who had served as Clerk of Works for the royal palace at nearby Greenwich. Thorpe had left the Office of Works in 1601 for private practice.

Hatfield House is a country house set in a large park, the Great Park, on the eastern side of the town of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England. The present Jacobean house, a leading example of the prodigy house, was built in 1611 by Robert Cecil, First Earl of Salisbury and Chief Minister to King James I and has been the home of the Cecil family ever since. It is a prime example of Jacobean architecture.
