With its novel architectural design of an inverted pyramid, The Pier opened in 1973 but was demolished in 2015 after deteriorating over the years. Construction began soon after on a new $76 million-dollar Pier Park that extends 3,065 feet (934 meters) into the bay and ends with a contemporary four-story Pier Head building featuring a restaurant, gift and bait shop, café and rooftop bar.
