RMKRD1D0–The Star and Garter Hotel at Richmond on Thames, Surrey, at the time when it was up for sale. Towards the end of the 19th century the hotel suffered a gradual decline in business. In June 1907 it was put up for auction, but the best offer was 20,000. A later auction in April 1909 produced the same result. Earlier in 1909 a sale of furniture raised about 1,500. In September 1911 it was heard that the hotel had been bought by a northern company with American connections for 18,000. The hotel was sold twice more, then became a hospital during the First World War. It was demolished in 1919
