Feb. 02, 1965 - Japan Produces The ''Schnozzle'' Ships... Ships with bulbous bows are now being built in Japan - and have been dubbed the ''Schnozzle'' ships by dockyard workers... This tanker the ''William Larimer Mellon'' shows her profile before being launched from the Kawasaki Dockyard in Kobe.. Experiments have proved that the bulbous bow forces a wide path through the water which lessens the friction on the hull - whereas ships with sharp bows result in the water binding the flanks of the vessel. https://www.alamy.com/licenses-and-pricing/?v=1 https://www.alamy.com/feb-02-1965-japan-produces-the-schnozzle-ships-ships-with-bulbous-image69415912.html
