RMTA2KP5–This photograph shows Prince Ludwig, later King Ludwig III of Bavaria (middle) leaving the Army Museum on the occasion of the Centennial Stiftungsfest (Founder's Day) of the Military Order of Max Joseph. It is the highest military order of merit, which was founded in 1806 by the Bavarian king Maximilian I Joseph. The duty of each member of the order was the 'bravery for the Fatherland'. The medal was a gold and white Maltese cross. Bavarian owners of this order were also appointed to the non-inheritable nobility and thus became 'Knights of'.
