Margery Kempe (c.1373-c.1438) was an illiterate Christian mystic and dictated her biography to 3 different amanuensis. The only surviving copy of the manuscript is held by the British Library in London. The book is in non-chronological order and reveals Margery was racked by guilt for a sinful past, had visions of Jesus, devils and demons and went on extensive pilgrimages in the Holy Land and Europe.
