Golfers made a small mound using wet sand and placed the ball on it. See the water can and box of sand at right. The square, raised surface was called the 'teeing ground' or the 'tee box.' Owing to a shortage of ''caddies'' for a two-day golf tournament organised by the Car mart Company at the Wentworth Golf Club, the help of 4? year old Candy, an Indian elephant from Chessington Zoo to carry clubs for competitors was enlisted. Candy didn't take long to cotton on to the idea, and was soon cheerfully striding round the course with the golfers, thoroughly enjoying his day out.
