A portrait of John Talbot, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury and 1st Earl of Waterford KG (1384/1387 – 17 July 1453), a noted English military commander during the Hundred Years' War, as well as the only Constable of France appointed by the king of England. Talbot was a daring soldier, who reorganized the army with captains and lieutenants, trained the men for sieges, and equipped them accordingly and his trademark tactic was rapid aggressive attacks. In 1436, he led a small force and routed the French at the battle of Ry near Rouen.
