Henry Pieper and his twin brother, Radioman 2nd Class Ludwig “Louie” Pieper, were both killed when their ship, Landing Ship Tank (LST) 523, struck an underwater mine off the coast of France on June 19, 1944. Louie’s remains were found immediately, but Henry’s remains weren’t identified until December 2017. The family requested that Henry be buried in Normandy next to his brother
