The Qianlong Emperor (25 September 1711 - 7 February 1799), born Hongli and temple name Gaozong, was the fifth emperor of the Qing Dynasty. The fourth son of the Yongzheng Emperor, he reigned officially from 1735 to 1796, before abdicating in favor of his son, the Jiaqing Emperor - a filial act to not rule longer than his grandfather, the Kangxi Emperor. Despite his retirement, he retained ultimate power until his death.

The Palace of Westminster was the monarch's principal residence in the late Medieval period. The ‘Model Parliament’, the first official Parliament of England, met there in 1295. After 1707 all British Parliaments have met at the Palace. Christopher Wren in the late 17th century completely redesigned the interior. In 1834 fire broke out and most of the buildings in the palace complex were destroyed.

RM2B016DX–China: Agui (7 Sepetember 1717 - 10 October 1797), General of the Qing Dynasty. Hanging scroll painting, late 1700s. Agui was a Manchu general of the Qing dynasty. He was a scion of a noble family who led a number of important Manchu military operations, including several of the 'Ten Great Campaigns'. In 1781, Agui went to Lanzhou, in the northwestern Gansu province, to lead the suppression of the rebellion by the Salar adherents of the Jahriyya Sufi order. Agui also led campaigns that acquired Ili and Eastern Turkestan (which today are part of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region) and Taiwan.

A new lord mayor is appointed every year, and the public parade that takes place as his or her inauguration ceremony reflects that this was once one of the most prominent offices in England. The office of Lord Mayor dates from 1189. The modern Lord Mayor's procession is a direct descendant of the Show.

When it was built around 1740 the two-up, two-down 'ty bach twt' cottage, in what is now Romilly Road, Cardiff, was the home for the gardner of one of the big houses which used to dominate the area. Once it stood on its own orchard, surrounded by flowers and green fields, but 50 years ago it was all but swallowed up when a local builder erected the terrace houses that was to become Romilly Road. RM2CDWRJY–An old engraving of East India House, Leadenhall Street, City of London, England, UK c. 1725. East India House was the London headquarters of the East India Company, which governed much of India until the British government took control of the Company's assets in 1858. The first East India House on the site was an Elizabethan mansion which the Company first occupied in 1648. This was completely rebuilt in early 1700s (as shown here). It was remodelled and extended later that century. It was demolished in 1861. The Lloyd's building, HQ for Lloyd's of London, was built on the site.
