On Saturday 1st and Sunday, 2nd October 2016m, the Wey and Arun Canal Trust Celebrated the two hundreth year of the opening of the canal with two-day Festival of decorated boats, music and volunteers dressed in period costumes. A replica of the original baton that cruised from Pallingham to Guildford, was carried by boat, wherever possible and by various other means, following the same route. A highlight of the Saturday, at the Loxwood Canal Centre, was the appearance of a horse to tow three trips of one of the boats, to take visitors back to a time before the internal combustion engine.
